v0 SEO for ChatGPT, Perplexity & AI search

Built your site with v0? Here is what v0's own documentation says about how AI crawlers see it, and the exact settings for robots.txt, llms.txt, structured data and your sitemap. Sources are listed at the bottom.

How v0 delivers pages to crawlers

Rendering
Server-rendered HTML by default (Next.js)
HTML without JavaScript (documented)

v0's docs say new chats start with a Next.js app and that v0 uses React Server Components "for improved performance and SEO". Next.js docs say pages and layouts are Server Components by default, and that Client Components are also pre-rendered to HTML on the server. The exception is content you deliberately load only in the browser, for example with next/dynamic and ssr: false. v0 can use other frameworks, but says Next.js gives the most reliable results.

Why it matters: many AI crawlers don't run JavaScript. If your text only appears after scripts run, they may see an empty page.

Make your content readable without JavaScript

  1. Keep v0 on its default Next.js setup.
  2. Keep text you want quoted in Server Components or in the initial render. Don't wrap important content in a component loaded with ssr: false.
  3. Publish, then view the page source of the live URL (or run the free audit) and search for your headline text.

robots.txt: let AI search crawlers in

  1. Ask v0 to add an app/robots.ts file (the Next.js robots file convention) or a static public/robots.txt.
  2. Publish and open yourdomain.com/robots.txt to confirm.
app/robots.ts that lets AI search crawlers in
import type { MetadataRoute } from "next";

export default function robots(): MetadataRoute.Robots {
  return {
    rules: [
      { userAgent: ["OAI-SearchBot", "ChatGPT-User", "PerplexityBot", "Claude-SearchBot", "Claude-User"], allow: "/" },
      { userAgent: "*", allow: "/" },
    ],
    sitemap: "https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml",
  };
}

Add llms.txt

  1. Next.js serves files in the public folder from the root URL, so public/llms.txt is served at /llms.txt.
  2. Write the file with the llms.txt generator and ask v0 to add it to public/.
  3. Publish, open yourdomain.com/llms.txt, and check it with the llms.txt validator.

Add JSON-LD and head code

  1. Ask v0 to export metadata (or generateMetadata) from each page with a unique title and description. This is Next.js's Metadata API.
  2. For JSON-LD, Next.js recommends rendering a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag in your layout or page component, and replacing < with \u003c in the JSON to prevent script injection.
JSON-LD in a Next.js page (Next.js docs pattern)
const jsonLd = { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "Organization", name: "Your company", url: "https://yourdomain.com" };

<script
  type="application/ld+json"
  dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{ __html: JSON.stringify(jsonLd).replace(/</g, "\\u003c") }}
/>

Sitemap

  1. Ask v0 to add an app/sitemap.ts file (the Next.js sitemap file convention) that lists every public URL on your custom domain.
  2. Reference it from robots.ts with the sitemap field.
  3. Publish and open yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.

FAQ

Is my v0 site visible to ChatGPT?

v0 builds Next.js apps by default, and Next.js renders pages to HTML on the server, so crawlers usually get your content. Your robots.txt must allow AI crawlers, and content loaded only in the browser won't be in the HTML. Run the free audit on your live URL to confirm.

Does v0 add robots.txt and a sitemap automatically?

v0's docs don't say so. Ask v0 to add app/robots.ts and app/sitemap.ts, which are the standard Next.js file conventions.

How do I add llms.txt to a v0 project?

Put the file at public/llms.txt. Next.js serves the public folder from the root, so it appears at /llms.txt after you publish.
