Carrd SEO for ChatGPT, Perplexity & AI search

Built your site with Carrd? Here is what Carrd's own documentation says about how AI crawlers see it, and the exact settings for robots.txt, llms.txt, structured data and your sitemap. Sources are listed at the bottom.

How Carrd delivers pages to crawlers

Carrd's docs don't say whether a site's text is in the HTML or added by JavaScript. Pro Plus can download a site as HTML, CSS and JS source, but that doesn't tell you what crawlers get. Run RankRoot's audit on your live URL: it fetches the page without running JavaScript and shows how much text comes through.

Why it matters: many AI crawlers don't run JavaScript. If your text only appears after scripts run, they may see an empty page.

Make your content readable without JavaScript

  1. Publish to your own domain if you can. Carrd's docs say custom domains need Pro Standard or higher, and Carrd sets up SSL for them.
  2. A Carrd site is one page. Sections only simulate extra pages, so put your main pitch, who it's for and your key facts in visible text on the page, not only in images.
  3. Give the site a clear title and description (next step under head tags). That's what search and AI tools show for your one URL.
  4. Run the free audit on your live URL to confirm crawlers see your text.

robots.txt: let AI search crawlers in

  1. Editing robots.txt needs Pro Plus or higher. Carrd calls this Site Files: supporting files "such as robots.txt and ads.txt".
  2. Go to Dashboard > Sites, click the site's Manage icon, then Files in the sidebar. Click the Edit icon next to robots.txt, change it and click Update File. Use the Preview icon to check it.
  3. Clearing a file's contents removes it from your site, so don't save an empty robots.txt by accident.
  4. On a lower plan you can't edit robots.txt. Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt to see what Carrd serves, and run the AI crawler checker to see which bots get through.

Add llms.txt

  1. Carrd's docs don't mention llms.txt, and Site Files only lists supporting files Carrd provides (the docs name robots.txt and ads.txt as examples).
  2. On Pro Plus, check the Files list for your site. If llms.txt isn't there, Carrd gives you no documented way to upload one.
  3. For a one-page site this matters less than the page itself: a clear title, description and readable text do most of the work. If you also have a main site elsewhere, publish llms.txt there with the llms.txt generator.

Add JSON-LD and head code

  1. Title and description: in the builder click Publish, change Title and Description, then Publish Changes.
  2. Share image: Publish > Media tab > Share Image (Pro Lite or higher).
  3. Extra meta tags (Pro Standard or higher): Publish > Settings tab > Meta Tags, one name=content pair per line, for example google-site-verification=.... Carrd adds them to <head>.
  4. JSON-LD (Pro Standard or higher): add an Embed element, set its Style to Hidden and its placement to Head, and paste your <script> block. Embeds only run on the published site, not in the builder.
Example: Organization JSON-LD for a hidden Head embed
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "name": "Your brand",
  "url": "https://yourdomain.com/",
  "description": "One sentence on what you do and who it's for."
}
</script>

Sitemap

  1. Carrd generates sitemap.xml for every site automatically. Open yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml to see it.
  2. Submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. If you edit robots.txt on Pro Plus, add a Sitemap: line pointing to it.

FAQ

Can I edit robots.txt on Carrd?

Yes, on Pro Plus or higher. Open your site in the Dashboard, click Manage, then Files, and edit robots.txt. Lower plans can't edit it.

Does Carrd make a sitemap?

Yes. Carrd's docs say every site gets an automatically generated sitemap.xml at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml that you can submit to search engines.

Can I add llms.txt to a Carrd site?

Carrd's docs don't mention it. Site Files (Pro Plus) edits supporting files Carrd provides, such as robots.txt and ads.txt. Check your site's Files list; if llms.txt isn't there, there's no documented way to add it.

How do I add structured data to Carrd?

On Pro Standard or higher, add an Embed element, set Style to Hidden and placement to Head, and paste a script type=application/ld+json block. It shows up on the published site.
