Replit SEO for ChatGPT, Perplexity & AI search
Built your site with Replit? Here is what Replit's own documentation says about how AI crawlers see it, and the exact settings for robots.txt, llms.txt, structured data and your sitemap. Sources are listed at the bottom.

How Replit delivers pages to crawlers
Replit's docs say Static Deployments "deliver pre-rendered HTML that search engines parse instantly". They also say Static Deployments aren't compatible with apps built by Replit Agent, which need a backend server and use Autoscale or Reserved VM. For those apps Replit doesn't document whether pages arrive as finished HTML or are built in the browser, so view the page source or run RankRoot's audit to check.
Why it matters: many AI crawlers don't run JavaScript. If your text only appears after scripts run, they may see an empty page.
Make your content readable without JavaScript
- Run the free audit on your published URL, or view the page source and search for your headline text.
- For a content site with no backend (landing page, portfolio, docs), Replit recommends Static Deployments. You set the public directory to serve and an optional build command.
- For Agent-built apps, open the Growth pane and run SEO Agent (paid plans, published apps only). Its findings are grouped into categories that include AI Readiness, Crawlability & Discovery, and Landing Page Rendering & Metadata, and each one can be handed to Agent with Fix with Agent.
- When a fix is ready, click Apply changes to main version, then republish so the live app and your SEO rating update.
robots.txt: let AI search crawlers in
- Replit's SEO guide says to ask Agent to create
robots.txtandsitemap.xml. SEO Agent also checksrobots.txt. - Tell Agent which crawlers to allow, for example by pasting the rules below.
- Republish, then open
yourdomain.com/robots.txtto confirm.
User-agent: OAI-SearchBot Allow: / User-agent: ChatGPT-User Allow: / User-agent: PerplexityBot Allow: / User-agent: Claude-SearchBot Allow: / User-agent: Claude-User Allow: / User-agent: * Allow: / Sitemap: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

Add llms.txt
- Replit's docs don't mention
llms.txtfor your app. Write one with the llms.txt generator. - Ask Agent to serve it as plain text at
/llms.txt. - Republish, open
yourdomain.com/llms.txt, and check it with the llms.txt validator.
Add JSON-LD and head code
- Replit recommends a unique title (under 60 characters) and meta description (around 150 to 160 characters) on every page, plus Open Graph and Twitter card tags.
- Replit also recommends JSON-LD structured data. Its suggested prompt:
Audit my site for SEO best practices and apply the fixes. Add a sitemap, robots.txt, Open Graph tags, structured data where it makes sense, and make sure every page has a unique title and meta description. - Republish and check the page source to confirm the tags are in the HTML.
Sitemap
- Ask Agent to create
sitemap.xml(Replit lists it as a common SEO Agent fix). - Make sure every URL uses your custom domain. Replit recommends a custom domain for trust with visitors and search engines.
- Republish and open
yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
Common mistakes
- Choosing a Static Deployment for an Agent-built app. Replit says they aren't compatible, because Agent apps need a backend server.
- Expecting an SEO rating on a private or scheduled deployment. Replit only rates public web-facing deployments (Autoscale, Reserved VM, Static).
- Applying fixes without republishing. The rating and the live app only update after you publish again.
- Treating a good SEO rating as proof that AI crawlers can read the content. The rating is based on a Lighthouse audit; check the raw HTML too.

Is my Replit app visible to ChatGPT?
Only if it is published publicly and the content is in the HTML the server sends. Static Deployments serve pre-rendered HTML; for Agent-built apps Replit doesn't document rendering, so check the page source or run the free audit.
Does Replit SEO Agent check AI crawlers?
Replit says SEO Agent surfaces issues that limit how well search engines and AI crawlers can find and understand your app, and its findings include an AI Readiness category. It needs a published app and a paid plan.
Which Replit deployment type is best for SEO?
For content-heavy sites without a backend, Replit recommends Static Deployments because they deliver pre-rendered HTML. Apps built by Agent need Autoscale or Reserved VM.
How do I add llms.txt to a Replit app?
Replit doesn't document it, so ask Agent to serve your file as plain text at /llms.txt, republish, and validate it.
