Why AI engines use structured data
AI answer engines read your page the way a search crawler does, then decide what you are and whether you answer the question. JSON-LD states the facts they would otherwise have to guess from your copy: your official name, your logo, your social profiles, what your product costs and the exact answers to common questions.
- Organization ties your brand name to your site, logo and profiles, so the entity behind the site is clear.
- SoftwareApplication / Product give a clean name, category and price, which is what "best X for Y" and "how much does X cost" answers need.
- FAQPage pairs real questions with short answers that can be quoted as-is.
- WebSite tells search engines the name your site should be shown under.
Markup only helps if crawlers can reach the page. Make sure AI search bots are not blocked with the AI crawler checker, or generate an AI-friendly robots.txt.
FAQ
Where do I put the JSON-LD?
Paste the whole <script type="application/ld+json"> block into the <head> of the page it describes (the <body> also works). Organization and WebSite markup usually goes on the homepage; Product, SoftwareApplication and FAQPage go on the page that shows that product or those questions.
Which schema type should I use for a SaaS product?
Use SoftwareApplication on your product or pricing page and Organization plus WebSite on your homepage. Product is meant for physical or retail goods with a price and availability.
Does schema markup help with ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude?
Schema gives crawlers your name, what you sell, prices and answers as unambiguous fields instead of prose they have to interpret. It does not guarantee a citation: the AI search crawlers also have to be allowed to reach the page, and the page content has to answer the question.
Is the markup this tool generates valid?
It outputs valid JSON with schema.org types and properties, and leaves empty fields out. Check the warnings under the output, and run the published page through Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator.
Can I add ratings or reviews?
Only mark up ratings and reviews that are actually shown on the page. This tool leaves them out on purpose because invented or hidden ratings break Google's structured data guidelines.
