Keep the questions and answers in the JSON-LD identical to the visible FAQ. Markup for content that is not on the page breaks Google's guidelines.

Why an FAQ helps AI engines cite you

People ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude questions, and those engines look for pages that answer them directly. A visible FAQ with short, specific answers gives them sentences they can quote and attribute to you, and FAQPage markup labels which text is the question and which is the answer.

Want other schema types too? The schema markup generator builds Organization, SoftwareApplication, Product and WebSite JSON-LD.

FAQ

What format should I paste?

Start each question with Q: and each answer with A:. Answers can span several lines and paragraphs. If you have no labels, separate each pair with a blank line and put the question on the first line.

Do I need both the HTML and the JSON-LD?

Yes. The HTML is what visitors and crawlers read on the page; the JSON-LD restates the same questions and answers as structured data. Structured data should describe content that is visible on the page, so publish both on the same page.

Does FAQ schema still matter now that Google no longer shows FAQ rich results?

Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in Search in May 2026, so no page gets the expandable result. The markup is still valid schema.org, and clear question-and-answer pairs are easy for AI answer engines to quote.

What makes a good FAQ for AI answers?

Use the questions customers actually ask (pricing, alternatives, who it is for, how it compares) and answer each in the first sentence, in plain words, with specific numbers and names. Keep each answer short enough to quote.
