What Webflow's own documentation says about how AI crawlers see sites built with it, and the exact settings for robots.txt, llms.txt, structured data and the sitemap.

## How Webflow delivers pages to crawlers

**Not documented** (Not documented: check yourself)

Webflow's hosting overview describes its CDN delivery (AWS and Fastly) but its help center doesn't state how pages are rendered for crawlers. Check yourself: open a published page, use View Page Source, and search for a sentence from the page. Content added later by custom-code scripts won't be in that source. RankRoot's free audit runs the same check.

Why it matters: many AI crawlers don't run JavaScript. If your text only appears after scripts run, they may see an empty page.

## What we found on 454 Webflow sites we track

Average AI visibility score 80/100 · 3% only show page text after JavaScript runs · 57% have no llms.txt (crawl up to 2026-10-18).

## Make your content readable without JavaScript

1. Publish to your custom domain and run the [free audit](https://getrankroot.com/#scan), or view the page source and search for your headline text.
2. If key text only appears after a custom-code script runs, move it into a normal Designer element so it's part of the page itself.

## robots.txt: let AI search crawlers in

1. Go to **Site settings** > **SEO** > **Indexing**.
2. Add your rules and click **Save**.
3. Webflow adds a `Sitemap:` line by default. Leave it unless you have a reason to remove it.
4. Publish the site so the change goes live, then open `yourdomain.com/robots.txt`.
5. The same section has an optional **Content-Signal** setting (for example `ai-train=no, search=yes`). Webflow notes it's based on a proposed extension, not an accepted standard, and that it states how content may be used rather than controlling access.

Rules that let AI search crawlers in:

```
User-agent: OAI-SearchBot
Allow: /
User-agent: ChatGPT-User
Allow: /
User-agent: PerplexityBot
Allow: /
User-agent: Claude-SearchBot
Allow: /
User-agent: Claude-User
Allow: /
User-agent: *
Allow: /
Sitemap: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
```

## Add llms.txt

1. Write the file with the [llms.txt generator](https://getrankroot.com/tools/llms-txt-generator). Webflow requires UTF-8 and under 100 KB.
2. Go to **Site settings** > **SEO** > **LLMs.txt**, click **Upload file**, choose the file, and click **Save changes**.
3. Publish. Webflow serves it at `yourdomain.com/llms.txt`. It isn't published to the Webflow staging domain.
4. Check it with the [llms.txt validator](https://getrankroot.com/tools/llms-txt-validator).

## Add JSON-LD and head code

1. Site-wide: **Site settings** > **Custom code** tab > **Head code**.
2. One page: open the page's settings in the Designer, then **Custom code** > **Inside `<head>` tag**.
3. Paste your JSON-LD inside a `<script type="application/ld+json">` tag. Each field holds up to 50,000 characters.
4. Custom code needs a Core, Growth, Agency or Freelancer Workspace, or an active Site plan. It runs in preview but only goes live when you publish.

## Sitemap

1. Go to **Site settings** > **SEO** > **Sitemap** and set **Auto-generate sitemap** to **Yes**, then **Save changes** and publish.
2. Webflow updates `sitemap.xml` each time you publish. To use your own, set it to **No** and paste your XML into **Custom sitemap.xml**.

## Common mistakes

- Checking llms.txt on the webflow.io staging domain. Webflow only serves it on your published custom domain.
- Saving robots.txt or custom code and not publishing. Neither goes live until you publish.
- Treating the Content-Signal header as a block. Webflow says it only states usage preferences; robots.txt rules control access.
- Uploading an llms.txt over 100 KB or not encoded as UTF-8.

## FAQ

### Does Webflow support llms.txt?

Yes. Upload the file under Site settings > SEO > LLMs.txt (UTF-8, under 100 KB) and publish. It's served at yourdomain.com/llms.txt, not on the staging domain.

### How do I edit robots.txt in Webflow?

Go to Site settings > SEO > Indexing, add your rules, save, and publish.

### Is my Webflow site visible to ChatGPT?

If robots.txt allows AI crawlers and your content is in the page HTML, yes. Webflow's docs don't state how pages are rendered for crawlers, so view the page source or run the free audit.

### Where do I put JSON-LD in Webflow?

In Site settings > Custom code > Head code for site-wide markup, or in a page's settings under Custom code > Inside <head> tag. Custom code needs a paid Workspace or Site plan.
